New Delhi: Around ten in the morning, an operation was started from Gadchiroli, where seven C60 companies under the command of Dy SP Ops were dispatched to Wandoli Village, close to the Chattisgarh border, after reliable intelligence revealed the whereabouts of twelve to fifteen Naxals who were camped there. An intense firefight began in the afternoon and went on sporadically for more than six hours, ending in the late evening. So far, an area search has turned up the bodies of 12 Maoists.
Up to now, seven automobile weapons—two INSAS, one carbine, one SLR, and three AK47s—have been found. Laxman Atram, DVCM One of the deceased Maoists has been identified as Vishal Atram, the person in charge of Tipagad Dalam. The Maoists are still being identified, and the region is still being searched. A jawan and a PSI of C60 were both injured by bullets. They have been evacuated and moved to Nagpur, as they are no longer in danger.
