New Delhi: Ahead of the Assembly elections in Maharashtra, the Eknath Shinde-led Mahayuti government has launched 'Ladla Bhai Yojna' for boys. In this internship scheme for unemployed youth, the state government will spend Rs 5,500 crore on the internship program. The announcement follows 'Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana,' which provides monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 to eligible women in Maharashtra.

Speaking at a public event in Pandharpur on Tuesday, "Many people asked, you made efforts for ladki bahini, what about ladka bhau (dear brother)? So, we have now done it for ladka bhau as well," he said.

He added, "Under this scheme, Rs 6,000 will be given to those who passed Class 12, Rs 8,000 for those with ITI and diploma, and Rs 12,000 per month for those with a graduate degree."

According to reports, under the Ladla Bhai Yojana, students who have completed their 12th grade will receive a stipend of Rs 6,000 per month, those with a diploma will receive Rs 8,000 per month, and graduates will receive Rs 10,000 per month.

This scheme was announced in Budget 2024-25, which was presented by state Finance Minister Ajit Pawar. The internship scheme is aimed to enhance the employability and skill set of youth to prepare them for a competitive job market. It will be implemented by the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation in collaboration with the Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan Kaksh (Chief Minister's Welfare Cell). According to the scheme's resolution, eligible candidates must be residents of Maharashtra aged between 18 and 35.

Eligibility criteria of the scheme

The internships will span six months, with candidates receiving monthly stipends via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Employers eligible to participate must operate in Maharashtra, be registered on the Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation web portal, have been established for at least three years, and be registered with EPF, ESIC, GST, DPIT, and Udyog Aadhaar. They must also possess a certificate of incorporation.

Uddhav Thackeray backs the scheme

Last month, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray backed the Maharashtra government's decision to implement the 'Ladki Bahini' scheme. Uddhav Thackeray also demanded a similar policy in the state for men as well.

In his address, Uddhav Thackeray said, "As the government plans to introduce various welfare schemes, one of which is the Ladli Behna scheme like in Madhya Pradesh, I welcome it and ask that this scheme be extended to boys too. Why discriminate? Both girls and boys should benefit from this."
