Maharashtra Elections 2024: In a significant development ahead of the Maharashtra state assembly elections, Nawab Malik, a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and former minister, officially filed his nomination from the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency.

Mankhurd will witness a triangular contest

Malik is set to face tough competition in this electoral battle, contending against Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Rajendra Waghmare and Abu Azmi from the Samajwadi Party, making it a triangular contest.

Dual nominations filed

On Tuesday, Malik filed two sets of nominations for the upcoming elections in Mumbai's Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency. After submitting his nominations, he spoke to reporters, stating, "I have filed my nomination as an independent candidate and also as a candidate of NCP. I haven't received the party's AB form; if it arrives in time, I will contest as an NCP candidate; otherwise, I will run as an independent."

Shortly after Malik’s nomination was filed, he received the party's AB form, confirming his candidacy as an official NCP candidate. In another notable move, Malik's daughter, Sana Malik, also filed her nomination as the official NCP candidate for the Anushakti Nagar assembly seat in Mumbai.
