Maharashtra Elections 2024: In a powerful show of support, Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil addressed a massive Dussehra Melava in Beed, Maharashtra, on Saturday. This marked his first Dussehra rally and comes at a critical juncture as assembly elections approach and protests from the Maratha community intensify. Held at Narayan Gad, the event attracted lakhs of supporters, emphasizing Jarange’s growing influence.

Urges people to change state govt

During his address, Jarange emphasized the need for transformation in the current political landscape, urging attendees to "promise me you will do it," without naming specific political parties. His remarks were interpreted as an indirect endorsement of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, potentially strengthening the opposition against the ruling Shinde Sena-BJP government.

Persistent demands for Maratha reservation

Jarange’s discontent with the current administration has been evident, especially following his sixth hunger strike aimed at securing reservation rights for the Maratha community. After concluding this protest earlier this month, he issued a stern warning to the Mahayuti government: if the community's "rightful inclusion" is not granted before the model code of conduct is enforced, those in power will face consequences.

Jarange earlier declared political power is neessary

In August, Jarange declared to his followers that achieving political power was essential for securing reservations for the Maratha community. While he has expressed reluctance to enter the political arena, he acknowledged that the urgency of the situation might compel him to reconsider.

Jarange's future political aspirations

Expectations were high that Jarange would announce his candidacy for the upcoming assembly polls during the Dussehra rally. Although he did not delve deeply into his electoral strategy, he encouraged the throngs of supporters to enact "a change" in Maharashtra, signaling his continued commitment to the cause of the Maratha community.
