MP News: Passengers hurled stones at trains bound for the Maha Kumbh in Madhya Pradesh on January 28, 2025, after finding the doors of the wagons closed. This incident occurred as devotees attempted to board Prayagraj-bound trains at Chhatarpur and Harpalpur railway stations, according to reports from news agency PTI.

Chaos at Railway Stations

Videos circulating on social media depicted scenes of chaos, with individuals shouting and throwing stones at train doors. Eyewitnesses reported that passengers inside the packed trains did not open the doors, exacerbating the situation. The Government Railway Police (GRP) intervened by opening the train doors, but many passengers were unable to board due to overcrowding.

Authorities Respond

In response to the unrest, railway officials announced enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Manoj Kumar Singh, the public relations officer for the Jhansi railway division, acknowledged the dispute over boarding procedures and emphasized that special trains would be operated continuously to accommodate the influx of devotees for the Mauni Amavasya ‘amrit snan’ on January 29.

Eyewitness Accounts

R.K. Singh, a passenger from Chhatarpur, shared his experience, stating he was en route to Prayagraj for a holy dip at Sangam during the Maha Kumbh but was unable to board due to closed doors. His account reflects the frustrations felt by many devotees eager to participate in this significant religious event.

Looking Ahead

The railway authorities are committed to improving coordination with local administrations to ensure passenger safety and satisfaction during peak travel times. They expect cooperation from travelers as they implement these new measures.
