New Delhi: A tragic incident has emerged from Singrauli district in Madhya Pradesh, where a tribal man reportedly died after allegedly being hit by a tractor. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday night, has sparked a heated debate between the opposition Congress party and the ruling BJP over issues related to tribal rights and the alleged influence of the sand mafia in the state.According to the police, the situation came to light when a distress call was received on the 100 helpline late Sunday night. The message reported that a man had been injured in a tractor accident.

Police report and allegations

Additional Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Verma stated that when the police arrived, they found Indrapal Agariya, a resident of Gannai village, with his family, other villagers, and journalists. "Agariya was taken to Sarai Hospital, where doctors observed that there were no visible injury marks on his body, but his condition appeared to be serious. He was referred to the district hospital, where he later died," Verma said.

The victim's relatives have alleged that the tractor involved in the incident belonged to one Lale Bansal. They claimed that the driver of the tractor hit Agariya, leading to his death. According to the kin, the tractor was driving on a road behind Agariya’s agricultural land and struck him when he attempted to stop the vehicle. The Additional SP mentioned that further action would depend on the post-mortem report.

Congress chief slams BJP govt over tribal issues

The incident has stirred political controversy, with the Congress party accusing the BJP government of neglecting tribal issues and colluding with the sand mafia. State Congress chief Jitu Patwari expressed outrage in a post on X, saying, "Another sensational incident of endless tribal oppression in Madhya Pradesh has now come to light from Singrauli. Sand mafia ran over poor tribal Indrapal Agariya of Gannai village because he refused to let them run over his crop."

Patwari further alleged that the accused individuals were connected with the BJP and had been involved in illegal sand excavation for years. He also criticized MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, questioning his silence on the matter. "If the oppression of Dalits and tribals continues like this, they will soon be seen openly fighting against the government on the streets," Patwari warned.

BJP hits back at Congress

In response, State BJP spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi dismissed the Congress's claims as baseless. "The Congress has a habit of making unfounded allegations. The BJP is committed to the development of the tribal community, as evident from the schemes of the Centre and state. If a crime is committed, nobody will be spared, and the law will take its course," Chaturvedi stated. However, he admitted that he did not have specific details about this incident.
