Two Indian states are set to get new leaders today, as Chief Minister designates Mohan Yadav and Vishnu Deo Sai take their oaths of office in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

New CMs of Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh to take oath today

The swearing-in ceremonies, taking place concurrently at 2 pm in the state capitals of Bhopal and Raipur. The oaths of office will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside senior BJP figures including Home Minister Amit Shah and Party President JP Nadda. These include Home Minister Amit Shah, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chhattisgarh former CM Bhupesh Baghel.

In Madhya Pradesh, the event at Lal Parade Ground heralds the beginning of Mohan Yadav’s tenure, following his party’s recent landslide victory at the state elections on November 17th. The BJP clinched over 70% of the assembly’s 230 seats, breaking a 20-year incumbent rule.

Flanked by two Deputy Chief Ministers, Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda, Yadav will lead a majority government alongside Narendra Singh Tomar as Assembly Speaker. State BJP President VD Sharma described the incoming administration as “historic”, with its foundations rooted in the massive electoral mandate achieved under PM Modi’s leadership.

Across the state border in Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai prepares to take the reins of power at Raipur’s Science College Ground. His name was announced as the consensus BJP Chief Ministerial candidate on Sunday, during the party’s legislative meeting.

Sai brings over three decades of political experience, having started as a village sarpanch back in 1989. He then enjoyed successive wins as the Member of Parliament for Raigarh over 15 years, before his new appointment as CM.

Of the 90 assembly seats contested last month, the BJP dominated with 54 constituents against the Congress party’s 35. They will be relying on Sai’s extensive local connections to deliver stability going forward.

Bhupesh Baghel to attend oath ceremony

In a sign of unity, the chief minister invited opposition leader and former Congressman CM Bhupesh Baghel to attend today’s ceremony alongside other political dignitaries.

Both states now stand at critical junctures, as their new leaders inherit significant challenges but also opportunities. Madhya Pradesh must capitalise on the BJP’s momentum to drive development after years of Congress rule. Chhattisgarh aims to provide consistent governance under Sai’s stewardship, complementing Modi’s national vision.

As the dust settles from hard-fought electoral battles, all eyes will be on the two men thrust into power this afternoon. Their success in delivering stability and development while managing key regional alliances will define their states’ trajectories in the coming years.
