The event took place on campus during the day when Fayaz approached Neha Hiremath and proposed to her, which she turned down. Enraged by the refusal, Fayaz pursued the girl and attacked her on the college campus. The horrifying incident's video is being widely circulated on social media. The video shows Fayaz pursuing Neha, and, as he gets close to her, he attacks her with a sharp weapon. Stabbing her twice on the neck, the jilted lover killed her on the spot.
The accused then made an attempt to run away, but college staff and students caught him. After being caught on the college premises by staff and students, he was handed over to the police. Fayaz is a resident of Saundatti in Belgavi. Neha Hiremath is reportedly the daughter of Niranjan Hiremath, a Congress corporator. Karnataka is led by the Congress party, with Siddaramaiah serving as the state's chief minister. The BJP has criticized the Congress for not doing enough to maintain peace and order in the region.
