Senior BJP leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi died aged 72 on May 13. He was suffering from cancer. Politicians across party line mourned him, calling his death "an irreparable loss" for Bihar politics. Although there are many political stories of Sushil Modi which made headlines, but apart from politics, his love story is quite interesting.

Filmy kind of love story

A boy from Bihar and a girl from Mumbai. Both of them board a train from Mumbai to Delhi, but who knew that this distance of approximately 1400 kilometers would change the lives of both of them. The story may seem a bit filmy but in reality it is a real love story. Story of Sushil Kumar Modi and his wife Jessie George. It was the year 1985 when Sushil Modi met Jesse George for the first time.

At that time Sushil Modi was a student of Patna University and was also an active member of ABVP. This was the reason why he had to undertake many journeys. At the same time, Jesse George was doing his PhD in History. The former Deputy Chief Minister had also mentioned this train journey of his in an interview given to a newspaper a few years ago.

Love at first sight

Both people were traveling in second class berth. During this time the conversation between the two started. Both of them liked each other at first sight and then the conversation progressed. Surely love was from both sides because both Sushil Modi and Jesse used to write love letters to each other. Both of them swore to live and die with each other. But the biggest challenge was that both of them came from different religions. The wall of different language and customs stood in front of both of them. It was very difficult for both of them to demolish this wall.

Family were against them

When the family members came to know about their love story, they got furious. They were afraid that this love story might turn into a controversy. Actually Sushil Modi was a Marwari and Jesse George was a Roman Catholic. So all this was not easy. But it is said that when love is intense, all walls are broken.

He left politics for love 

Apart from the family members, the biggest difficulty in their love was Sushil Modi's association with RSS. But instead of choosing politics, he chose his love. Sushil Modi left RSS and married Jesse George in 1986. Many big leaders including former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee attended this marriage.
After marriage, he distanced himself from politics. After this Sushil Modi opened a computer institute. However, he could not devote much time to this either. How could it be possible, after all, for how long could he keep himself away from politics. Destiny also wanted something else. He reached the assembly in the year 1990. When Sushil Modi was the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, his wife was a lecturer in college. Even today, in a country where inter-caste marriage is seen as a taboo, both of them had set a new example many years ago by crossing the boundaries of religion.
