Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla addressed a letter to every member of Parliament three days after the significant security breach in the Parliament, stating that there was no connection between the security incident and the recent suspension of thirteen MPs from the Lower House.

On December 13, the day India observed the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks, two individuals sprang inside the Lok Sabha from the visitors' gallery just above the chamber and threw smoke canisters inside the Parliament, causing major panic.

Birla underlined that there is "no association" between the MPs' suspension from the Lok Sabha and the security breach in Parliament.

The Speaker stated,"It is indeed unfortunate that some Members and political parties are linking the decision of the House to suspend some members from the service of the House to the incident which occurred on December 13, 2023."

Om Birla further said, “This is unwarranted. There is no association between the suspension of the members to the incident on December 13. The suspension is purely to uphold the sanctity of the house.”
