Lok Sabha passes Finance Bill, completes interim budget exercise

The Finance Bill does not propose any modification in the tax anatomy. Notably, the final budget will be tabled after the formation of the new government, post the general elections in April-May.

The Lok Sabha passed the Finance Bill 2024 on Wednesday and completed the exercise for passage of the interim budget 2024-25. The Finance Bill does not propose any modification in the tax anatomy. Notably, the final budget will be tabled after the formation of the new government, post the general elections in April-May.

Speaking in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said the Finance Bill does not present any change in the tax structure.

The Union Minister said, “We have focused on development despite presenting an interim budget ahead of elections."

Earlier in the day the Lower House granted Rs 47.66-lakh crore interim Budget 2024-25 of the Union Government and second batch of supplementary demands for grants. The Appropriation Bill was also approved by the house, giving authority to the government to meet expenses expenses for four months.

Moreover, the Lok Sabha has also approved the Rs 1.8 lakh crore budget of the Union Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
