The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that it would hold a press conference on June 3, just a day before the vote counting for the General Elections 2024 begins. This marks a significant departure from the usual practice where deputy election commissioners would brief the media after each phase of polling.

The press invite from the ECI reads: "Press conference by the Election Commission of India on General Elections 2024." This is the first time the Commission has convened a press conference at the conclusion of polls in the country.

Counting of Votes to Begin

The counting of votes is scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. on June 4. The focus will be on the detailed information to be shared by the Election Commission during the press conference, as anticipation builds over the election results.

The ECI previously announced that the counting would cover 543 parliamentary seats, state assemblies in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, as well as various assembly by-polls. Additionally, the Election Commission issued several instructions regarding the counting of votes cast through postal ballots.

Instructions for Vote Counting

In a statement, the ECI provided a comprehensive set of guidelines for poll officials on the procedures to be followed for counting votes from electronic voting machines (EVMs), Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), and postal ballots for both the Lok Sabha elections and state legislative assembly by-elections.

With the press conference scheduled for tomorrow, there is widespread anticipation about the insights and information the Election Commission will provide as the country awaits the results of the General Elections 2024.
