The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced two lists of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 but has dropped almost twenty-one percent of the sitting Members of Parliament from their respective seats, which contain 267 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. According to the reports, the strategy has been taken keeping potential opposition to the incumbent in mind, and decisions were made in response to input the party received from the grassroots.

The selection of candidates is crucial since the party wants to win 370 seats on its own in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled in a few weeks. This means that the party needs to win 67 more constituencies than it did in 2019.

Out of a total 267, the first list had names of 195 candidates whereas the second list has 67 candidates, which includes former chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Out of the 195 candidates included in the first list, only 33 MPs were replaced; in contrast, 30 MPs were replaced in the 72-name second list. 140 sitting MPs have been repeated overall, while 67—two of whom chose not to contest have not received tickets.

In the second list, there are 20 candidates from each of the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, seven from Gujarat, six from Telangana and Haryana, five from Madhya Pradesh, two from Delhi, one from Dadra, and one from Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
