Furthermore, Thakur's commendation of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, as a patriot stirred widespread condemnation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several BJP leaders denounced her remarks, with the Prime Minister emphasizing, "I will never be able to forgive Pragya Thakur for insulting Mahatma Gandhi."
