Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In a significant development coinciding with the BJP's release of its first list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, received a big boost as Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) formally joined the coalition. Uttar Pradesh-based party had previously been associated with the opposition INDI-alliance but had been signaling a potential switch for some time.

Announcing the swap of the RLD, and joining into the NDA, BJP President JP Nadda took to X to share photos of Jayant Chaudhary's meeting with him and Home Minister Amit Shah. In a statement in Hindi, Nadda expressed his warm welcome to Chaudhary's decision, highlighting his belief that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the RLD would play a crucial role in advancing the journey towards a developed India and the progress of Uttar Pradesh.

Nadda posted, "I met RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary in the presence of Amit Shah. I heartily welcome his decision to join the NDA family. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, you will make an important contribution to the journey towards a developed India and the development of Uttar Pradesh."

Speculations were rife about a potential alliance between the BJP and the RLD had been circulating for some time. It gained momentum when Jayant Chaudhary's grandfather and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna on February 9. Welcoming the prestigious honor bestowed upon his grandfather, Chaudhary expressed his sentiments, stating, "Dil jeet liya mera" (They have won my heart).
