Lok Sabha elections 2024: First phase of voting begins; To decide fate of over 1,625 candidates

India is all set to witness the biggest festival of democracy as the voting for the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections are set to take place today, April 19. In this phase, voting is going to take place on 102 Lok Sabha seats in 21 states and union territories.

Seats in different states

In this, voting is to be held on 12 seats in Rajasthan, 8 in Uttar Pradesh, 6 in Madhya Pradesh, 4 in Bihar, 3 in West Bengal, 5 in Assam and Maharashtra, 2 in Manipur and one seat each in Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir and Chhattisgarh. Apart from this, Tamil Nadu (39), Meghalaya (2), Uttarakhand (5), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Andaman Nicobar Islands (1), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Puducherry (1), Sikkim (1) Voting will be held on all the Lok Sabha seats of ) and Lakshadweep (1).

Timing of voting

Voting time on April 19 will be from 8 am to 5 pm. But those who were standing in the queue till 5 o'clock, but their turn to vote could not come, there will be an additional time of one hour for such people.

How many voters will decide candidates fate? 

According to the report received from the Election Commission, the number of voters who voted in the first phase is 16.63 crore. In which about 35.67 lakh voters are going to vote for the first time. The number of men in the first phase is 8.4 crore. Also the number of women voters is 8.23 ​​crore. Not only this, more than 11 thousand third gender voters are going to vote. More than 1,600 candidates, including eight Union ministers, two former chief ministers and an ex-governor will test their electoral fate today. Over 16.63 crore voters will decide the fate of around 1,625 candidates in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. 

Security arrangements 

Heavy security arrangements are in place to conduct the first phase of the general elections in Uttar Pradesh. Polling is scheduled to take place in 14,849 booths of 7,689 polling booths in eight West UP constituencies-Kairana, Sahranpur, Bijnor, Nagina, Rampur, Moradabad, Pilibhit and Muzaffarnagar on Friday.
