Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar underscored the imperative of combating misinformation and fake news, cautioning voters against the dissemination of unverified information. Emphasizing the transient nature of deceptive narratives, Kumar urged citizens to exercise vigilance and discernment in discerning fact from fiction.
In a bid to curb malpractices and ensure electoral integrity, significant seizures amounting to Rs 3,400 crore were reported in the preceding 11 state assembly elections. The Election Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, announcing the establishment of control rooms in every district to promptly address any instances of violence or misconduct.
Acknowledging the importance of inclusivity, the Election Commission introduced special provisions to facilitate voting for elderly and differently-abled citizens. Individuals above 85 years of age and those with over 40% disability will have the option to vote from their homes, reflecting a concerted effort to accommodate diverse voting needs.
Highlighting the progressive strides in gender representation, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar noted that 12 states boast a higher ratio of female voters compared to male voters.
