Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As discussions between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress regarding a tie-up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections near conclusion, the focus intensifies on seat allocation in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's Chief Minister and AAP's national convenor, confirmed ongoing negotiations with the Congress regarding seat distribution in the national capital ahead of the parliamentary polls. The parties, both members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), have been deliberating on a seat-sharing formula not only in Delhi but also across other states.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress pushes for 3 seats in Delhi

Reports suggest that the Congress is vying for three out of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. However, specifics regarding which constituencies remain under contention have not been disclosed. The BJP, victorious in all seven Delhi seats during the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, secured significant margins against AAP and Congress candidates. Notably, in the previous parliamentary polls, BJP contenders garnered more votes individually than the combined vote share of Congress and AAP candidates.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: AAP offers 1 seat to Congress

In response to Congress's demand, the AAP has made an offer of one Lok Sabha seat, citing the principle of alliance ethics. Despite the AAP's stance that the Congress's performance in recent elections does not merit significant representation, the party extends a gesture of respect by proposing one seat to its ally. Sandeep Pathak, AAP's general secretary, emphasized the importance of upholding alliance principles, acknowledging the Congress's historical contributions while asserting the AAP's candidacy for six seats.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: No alliance in Punjab

While collaboration seems plausible in Delhi, the AAP and Congress have opted for separate paths in Punjab. The AAP announced its decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections independently in Punjab, with no joint alliance with the Congress. Arvind Kejriwal affirmed that the AAP will soon unveil its candidates for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, along with the solitary Chandigarh parliamentary constituency.

As the electoral landscape takes shape, negotiations and strategic alignments between political entities unfold, shaping the contours of India's upcoming parliamentary elections.
