Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated on Saturday that the first draft of the party's manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be released by February 15, while the final version will be out before the election dates are announced.

Congress 1st draft of party’s manifesto to be ready by Feb 15

Shashi Tharoor, who is part of the manifesto committee, expressed hope that the opposition INDIA bloc may consolidate core issues from member parties' manifestos into a common one.

"Congress' internal procedures dictate the first draft must be ready by February 15. But the final manifesto will certainly be published before the Election Commission announces the poll dates," he affirmed.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was speaking at 'Shape the Future', a public consultation event hosted by the West Bengal PCC and All India Professionals' Congress. It gathered constructive inputs from civil society for the manifesto.

What does Shashi Tharoor say on the INDIA bloc?

He said each INDIA member will have its own manifesto, but combining key points into a joint document is possible. Issues like unemployment, inflation, income support for the poor, women's rights, farmers, and youth will be in focus.

The interactive session allowed Tharoor to garner impartial views from diverse stakeholders on matters they want a union government to address - spanning healthcare, education, banking, IT, culture, law, industry, and more.

What release of Congress’ manifesto underscore?

For Congress, the manifesto will be a crucial document to showcase its vision and policy priorities before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party has started formulating ideas and proposals well in advance through public engagement.

Tharoor noted that transparently sourcing suggestions from various segments of society will help shape an inclusive, reflective, and compelling manifesto. The final draft will articulate Congress' roadmap on India's most pressing issues when it launches.
