Lok Sabha elections 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke words of honor for AIADMK's J Jayalalithaa and MG Ramachandran (MGR) on February 27. Speaking at the final gathering of state president K Annamalai of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the 'En Mann En Makkal' padayatra in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, the prime minister referred to MGR as an "incomparable leader" and described Jayalalithaa's administration as the pinnacle of committed service to the people of the state.
Prime Minister Modi and the BJP are making efforts to connect with the people of the southern region of the nation. Looking at past voting records BJP must have seen the need to improve their presence in the south in light of the Lok Sabha elections.
The PM launched development projects valued at hundreds of crores during a tour to Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Kerala on January 2-3, marking the start of the year. Along with this, PM Modi began his 11-day tour of South India, where he paid visits to several Ramayan-related temples ahead of the official opening of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22.
The prime minister predicted that the BJP would win "double-digit" seats in Kerala during his most recent two-day visit while neighboring Tamil Nadu would "create history in 2024."
Recently, as part of his efforts to engage with the South, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kerala and Tamil Nadu on February 27 and 28. PM Modi has traveled to the southern states three times this year.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP could win only 29 of the 127 seats spread over five southern states: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Union Territory Lakshadweep.
Of them, four were from Telangana and 25 were from Karnataka. In Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh in party did not cast significant votes back in 2019.
PM Modi conveyed that efforts are being made to link individuals from your booth to the voter list, entice first-time voters, and educate them about the advantages of casting a ballot. He shared this information on January 17, at the Shakthikendra Incharges Sammelan in Kochi, Kerala.
After securing eight seats and more than doubling its vote share in Telangana, the BJP is focusing on organizational reforms to obtain at least ten of the state's 17 Lok Sabha seats. Ahead of the general elections in 2024, the party also intends to form alliances in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The BJP is trying to make amends in Karnataka, the state that it lost the assembly elections in 2023. In addition to forming a coalition with the Janata Dal (Secular) to strengthen the Vokkaliga vote, the BJP is considering unseating over half of the state's members of parliament in the next elections.
According to sources, the BJP would prioritize winning 84 seats in South India that have been classified as "weak" categories and which the party has never taken. Analysts say the figure is critical if the party hopes to fulfill its goal of 370 seats for the BJP and 400 or more for the NDA.
Target 370 was brought up for the first time by Prime Minister Modi during his remarks at a rally in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month. In 2019, the BJP administration revoked Article 370, giving Jammu and Kashmir a unique status.
Within the BJP, there is conjecture that Prime Minister Modi's repeated trips to the south hint towards his potential plans to run for parliament in the future from a seat in Tamil Nadu, or any other neighboring state, in addition to the Varanasi district.
Prior to the 2024 elections, the BJP also intends to dispatch senior party leaders and Union ministers to the states south of Vindhya. Meeting party workers with an emphasis on key schemes being the agenda.
