Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to unveil its candidates for the "'weak' Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh before the official announcement of election dates, as per insider sources.
Sources reveal that the BJP intends to disclose its candidates for the constituencies considered vulnerable at the earliest, even before the Election Commission releases the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A significant meeting was convened on Saturday, attended by key BJP figures including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party chief JP Nadda, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The primary agenda of the meeting was to strategize around the constituencies where the BJP anticipates tough competition.
The decision to announce candidates for the "weak seats" before the official election dates are declared is aimed at providing ample time for the candidates to kick-start their election campaigns effectively.
Deputy Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with other prominent leaders from the state's core committee, participated in the extensive two-hour meeting held at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP clinched an impressive victory by securing 62 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, with its NDA ally Apna Dal securing an additional two seats.
The BJP's strategic meeting follows recent developments in the state's political landscape, notably the seat-sharing agreement between the opposition INDIA bloc parties - Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP).
According to the arrangement, the Congress is set to contest 17 seats, while the remaining 63 seats will be allocated to the Samajwadi Party and its alliance partners.
With the BJP's proactive approach in addressing potential electoral challenges and strategizing ahead of time, the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh continues to evolve as parties gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
