Amid the ongoing conflict between the allies of the INDIA block, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced its three candidates for the Lok Sabha seats election in Assam. The move is seen as a further wrench into ongoing seat-sharing negotiations.

AAP MP Sandeep Pathak, addressing a press conference, announced Manoj Dhanohar for Dibrugarh, Bhaven Chaudhary for Guwahati, and Rishi Raj for Sonitpur constituencies. He mentioned the lack of progress in seat-sharing talks with the INDIA bloc, which includes Congress and other regional parties, as the reason for going solo.

'Months of talks haven't yielded results,' says AAP MP

"While we remain committed to the INDIA alliance, months of talks haven't yielded results," Pathak said. The news agency ANI said, "We need to give our candidates time to campaign. We are tired of just talking, we want to contest and win."

Furthermore, the AAP MP said, "We stand with the INDIA alliance and hope that the alliance allots these three seats announced today to the AAP... When you come into an alliance and your target is to win the election, time and strategy are paramount. We have become tired of talking. How much more time will be wasted in talking?"

Samajwadi Party announces Lok Sabha candidates in UP

Earlier in the week, the Samajwadi Party (SP)  declared candidates for 16 Lok Sabha seats despite ongoing negotiations, in a similar incident. The list included sitting MP Dimple Yadav for the Mainpuri seat. Notably, three of the 16 candidates are from Yadav's family. The list also has the 'PDA (Pichhada, Dalit, Alpsankhyak)' imprint with the highest weightage to OBCs (Other Backward Classes).

In Assam, the Bhartiya Janta Party has bagged a lion's share in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. BJP won nine seats whereas Congress won three seats. Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF emerged victorious in one seat.

Both actions pose a challenge to the unity of the INDIA bloc, raising questions about their ability to present a united front against the BJP in the upcoming elections.

Advantage for the BJP

With AAP and SP going solo, the INDIA bloc faces the crucial task of finding solutions to accommodate their ambitions and forge a cohesive electoral strategy. If the INDIA block fails to do so, the opposition alliance may hand over the advantage to BJP in Lok Sabha elections.
