Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 5 Big names missing from BJP’s first list

BJP announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, however, some of the prominent names are missing from the list.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on Saturday. The includes 195 names which also includes 34 ministers from Centre and states. According to the list, several top leaders are given space in the first list. Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been nominated from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, for third time. 

Though the long list has several prominent names, but some well-known names are missing from the first list of BJP. 

First list of BJP candidates: Five well-known names are missing

Sadhvi Pragya Thakur

The BJP has chosen Alok Sharma to challenge incumbent Madhya Pradesh MP Sadhvi Pragya Thakur in the Bhopal seat. Sadhvi Pragya Thakur was one of the stronger opponents in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Congress mainstay Digvijaya Singh by an overwhelming margin of more than three lakh votes.

Meenakshi Lekhi

The BJP has chosen to field Sushri Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi seat, while Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi's name is absent from the initial list of candidates. The late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj's daughter, Bansuri Swaraj, is a lawyer at the Supreme Court.

Ramesh Bhiduri

The Delhi Assembly LoP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, who presently represents the South Delhi seat through Ramesh Bhiduri, is named on the first list of BJP candidates.

Parvesh Verma

Kamaljeet Sehrawat, a Delhi resident from the West Delhi constituency, got the ticket in place of Parvesh Verma, the party's current MP. Former South Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor Kamaljeet Sahrawat is a prominent figure in the party's Delhi MCD campaign.

Harsh Vardhan

The former Union Minister and MP for Chandni Chowk was not on the initial list of contenders. On the BJP ticket, Praveen Khandelwal was fielded from the Chandni Chowk seat.

The BJP has already replaced four of its seven members of parliament from Delhi, keeping only Manoj Tiwari from the North East Delhi seat. On the other hand, East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir on Saturday announced that he has decided not to contest this time.
