The newly formed opposition’s block INDIA alliance on Friday decided to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election together. The alliance parties passed a resolution to jointly contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, saying that “We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together as far as possible. Seat arrangements in different states will be initiated immediately and concluded at the earliest in a collaborative spirit of give-and-take.”

Opposition leaders from 28 parties gathered in Mumbai for the second day of the third round of talks on Lok Sabha elections. The bloc passed key decisions on the coordination committee, communication strategies and seat sharing. Opposition parties will convey their strategies and campaigns in different languages on ‘Judega Bharat, Jeetega India’.

The coordination committee for the INDIA alliance, comprising 13 people from various parties, will function as the high-level decision-making body and start immediately. Congress’ KC Venugopal, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Tanil Nadu’s chief minister MK Stalin, TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, Bihar’s vice-CM Tejaswi Yadav, JDU’s Lallan Singh, AAP’s Raghav Chadda, Jhanrkhand’s CM Hemant Soren, Samajwadi Party’s Javed Ali Khan, CPI leader D Raja, NCP’s Omar Abdullah, and PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti are among the members of the committee.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi, Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray are among those present at the meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. They are joined by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, all of whom arrived in the city on Wednesday.
Earlier, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge cautioned the block parties to be prepared for more attacks in the coming months and more raids and arrests from the government in the coming days.
