New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah confidently asserted on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure victory in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at the inauguration of the Nyay Setu water supply project, Shah emphasized the BJP's enduring strength and resilience.

"I assure you that let the opposition do whatever it wants to do; in 2029, the NDA will come, and Modi ji will come. They (opposition) do not know that the BJP has won more seats in this election than the number of seats Congress got in 3 elections," Shah declared.

BJP's Current Standing

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured 240 seats, a decrease from its 2019 tally of 303. Despite this reduction, the NDA managed to form the government at the Center with support from allies such as the Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United). This coalition ensured the continuation of Narendra Modi's leadership, marking his third consecutive term as Prime Minister—the first since Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

The opposition INDIA bloc posed a significant challenge to the NDA, winning over 230 seats. The Congress party notably improved its performance, securing 99 seats compared to 52 in 2019. This marked the party's best performance in 15 years since winning 206 seats in the 2009 general elections.

JDU's position at act

Political parties have already begun to respond to the Central Government's intention to modify the Waqf Act. According to JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar, the specifics of the planned bill to modify the Waqf Act are still unknown. Nitish Kumar has made the required preparations in Bihar for the Waqf property management. On Waqf property, buildings including motels, stores, and even orphanages have been constructed. We trust that the Waqf model of Bihar will be worked on by the Central Government.

According to RJD spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari, the goal is elsewhere, and the government's attention is diverted. The current central government uses two strategies—tabling a specific faith and bringing up contentious subjects—in order to avoid having the fundamental concerns tackled. The BJP has allies in the JDU and TDP. Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu ought to explain what is going on. Although there is significant opposition, the nation will follow its laws and regulations.

Setback in Uttar Pradesh

The BJP faced notable setbacks in Uttar Pradesh, where its seat tally dropped from 62 to 33. Pre-poll allies Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Apna Dal (SP) managed to secure two and one seat, respectively. This was a significant decline from the BJP and its allies' previous wins of 73 seats in 2014 and 64 seats in 2019 in the state.

Shah responded to criticisms from the opposition, which have questioned the stability of the current government. "These people who want to spread instability repeatedly say that this government is not going to last. I have come to assure them that not only will the government complete its term but the next government will be of NDA and be ready to sit in the opposition and learn the way of working in the opposition properly," he said. Amit Shah's assertive remarks underscore the BJP's confidence in maintaining its dominance in Indian politics. As the nation moves towards the 2029 elections, the political landscape remains dynamic and competitive, with both the NDA and the opposition gearing up for a formidable contest.
