Terrorist Killed in Jammu and Kashmir: In the wake of the agonizing loss of 26 lives in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, India has made significant moves. The highest commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba Altaf Lali was gunned down by security personnel during an encounter in Bandipora on Friday.
The Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police had initiated a search operation in Bandipora based on intelligence. The encounter was initiated as soon as the terrorist presence was ascertained. One of the terrorists was wounded in the preliminary shootout. Two policemen, belonging to a senior officer's security detail, were also wounded during the encounter.
Meanwhile, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Srinagar and took briefing on the operation in Bandipora. He examined the developments of the current operations to search for Lashkar terrorists behind the attack.
The government has also begun targeting terrorist homes. In Bijbehara, the residence of Lashkar terrorist Adil Hussain Thokar was destroyed using an IED, and Asif Sheikh's house in Tral was demolished with a bulldozer.
The Anantnag police have also declared a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information that could lead to the arrest of Adil Thokar and two Pakistani terrorists Ali Bhai and Hashim Musa. Sketches of all three have also been published. The terrorists were wearing army uniforms, according to the surviving tourists, who said that they killed people only after verifying their religion after verifying their identity cards.
