In a significant development, the lavish lifestyle of Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is under the scanner following raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Ghosh, currently in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody over alleged financial irregularities, faces intensified scrutiny after the ED searched multiple properties connected to him in West Bengal on Friday.

ED Raids Uncover Ghosh’s Lavish Lifestyle

The ED detained Prasun Chattopadhyay, a close aide of Sandip Ghosh, during the raids. Chattopadhyay, a data entry operator at Calcutta National Medical College, was arrested at his home in Subhasgram, South 24 Parganas, before being taken to Canning. It was revealed that Ghosh had constructed a sprawling multi-crore farmhouse-cum-bungalow on a two-bigha plot in Madhya Narayanpur three years ago. This property, named "Sangeeta Sandip Villa," after Ghosh and his wife, reportedly served as a frequent retreat for the family, according to local residents cited in a News18 report.

The bungalow is now a focal point in the investigation, with neighbors recounting regular visits from Ghosh and his family. The ED’s search is part of a broader operation targeting nine locations in and around Kolkata, as authorities probe into suspected financial mismanagement at RG Kar Medical College during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.

Ties to Rape-Murder Case Intensify Scrutiny

The investigation into Ghosh's alleged financial misdeeds gained momentum following the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The crime, which occurred under Ghosh's administration, has led both the ED and CBI to intensify their investigations into potential financial misconduct at the state-run hospital.

Comprehensive Raids Unveil Suspicious Activities

On Friday, the ED filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), akin to a First Information Report (FIR), against Ghosh. The raids extended to his residence in Beliaghata, East Kolkata, where officers waited three hours before gaining access at 9:30 AM after Ghosh's wife arrived to unlock the premises. Further searches were conducted at dual apartments in Milan Palli near Airport Gate number 2, reportedly owned by Ghosh's relatives.

During these searches, an ED officer was seen exiting one of the apartments with a black trolley bag.
Simultaneously, the ED searched the residences of arrested medical equipment supplier Biplab Sinha and accountant Kaushik Koley in Howrah’s Sankrail area. Investigators also combed through Ghosh’s in-laws’ house in Baidyabati, Hooghly, though it was locked at the time.

In addition, the ED team raided Crescent Manufacturing Private Ltd's office in Camac Street, Kolkata's central business district, further widening the probe into Ghosh's financial dealings.

The investigation continues, as authorities seek to unravel the full extent of the alleged financial irregularities linked to Sandip Ghosh’s tenure as principal of RG Kar Medical College.
