On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) began the construction of the worlds new highest motorable road, Likaru-Mig La-Fukche, in Ladakhs Demchok sector. Also, it will be beneficial for security purposes as Fukche lies 3 km from its contest LAC (Line of Actual Control).Significantly, with this, the BRO will break its record of the highest motorable road.Presently, the worlds highest motorable existing road at Ladakhs Umling La is at an altitude of 19,024 feet.According to reports, an all-women team of BRO began its construction of the Likanru-Mig La-Fukche road. A five-member team of women combat engineers headed by Colonel Ponung Doming is supervising the road construction.Further, the organisation has aligned two more projects. These include the Shinku La tunnel connecting Manali through Zanskar to Leh, which will also set a record on its completion surpassing the record held by Chinas MiLa tunnel.Moreover, the BRO is also working on the construction of Nyoma Airfield, located 30 km in aerial distance in Eastern Ladakh. When completed, it will be one of the highest airfields in the world, the organisations chief Lt General Rajeev Chaudhry said.
