In a significant counter-terror operation, two terrorists were neutralized by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district during an ongoing encounter on Saturday. The joint operation, involving the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, led to the recovery of a large stockpile of arms and ammunition from the site of the encounter.

The operation was initiated after intelligence inputs indicated an infiltration attempt in the Gugaldhar area of Kupwara. Acting on this tip-off, security forces launched a search operation in the region. While combing the area, vigilant troops identified suspicious movement, prompting them to challenge the terrorists. This led to a fierce exchange of gunfire, during which two terrorists were killed.

Weapons and ammunition seized

Following the encounter, security forces seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, classified as "war-like stores," from the scene. This discovery underscores the scale of the planned infiltration and the potential damage it could have caused if not intercepted.

Army's statement

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the success of the operation through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Two terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces in the ongoing Operation GUGALDHAR. War-like stores have been recovered. A search of the area is underway, and the operation is in progress."

The operation is still ongoing as security forces continue to secure the region and ensure no additional threats remain.
