As Haryana gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, All India Congress Committee General Secretary and former Union Minister Kumari Selja has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deceiving the public and mismanaging the state for a decade.
Selja criticized the BJP for failing to implement any significant projects and neglecting the state's needs, asserting that the people of Haryana will give a fitting response to the saffron party in the upcoming polls.
Kumari Selja raised serious concerns about the BJP's governance in Haryana over the past ten years. "What major project has the BJP implemented in a decade? What initiatives has the state government brought from the Centre?" Selja asked during a media briefing.
She pointed out that the so-called "double engine" government of the Centre and state has failed to deliver tangible benefits to the people of Haryana. According to her, promises made by the BJP have remained unfulfilled, with no significant projects to show for their decade-long rule.
Selja also criticized the BJP’s approach to poverty alleviation, particularly the distribution of 5 kg of ration to the poor. She dismissed the government's claim that this measure would end poverty, stating, "Giving 5 kg of ration will not eradicate poverty. What the people need is employment, not just handouts." She further lambasted the government for failing to provide jobs to the youth of the state, citing that no appointments were made to fill over two lakh vacant positions in government departments. Selja blamed rising unemployment for contributing to social issues such as drug addiction.
The Congress leader also took a sharp jab at the BJP's unfulfilled promise of providing housing to all by 2022. "Has the Prime Minister’s promise of giving everyone a roof over their head been fulfilled?" she asked. Highlighting a reduction in the size of plots being allotted to slum dwellers—from 100 square yards under Congress to 30 square yards under BJP, Selja accused the BJP of charging people for these smaller plots, further adding to their woes.
She recounted how the Congress-led government had initiated a plan to build 1,100 houses in Sirsa, a project that was blocked by the BJP once they came to power. "The funds for the project were released in 2013, but the BJP government never allowed it to come to fruition," Selja lamented. She added that instead of helping slum dwellers, the BJP government has been demolishing their homes.
In a scathing assessment of BJP's internal struggles, Selja remarked that the party is facing a major crisis ahead of the elections. "The BJP’s land has become barren. Despite ruling for ten years, the party is in disarray, and they are scrambling to find candidates," she stated. She cited the example of Haryana Chief Minister being shifted from Karnal to contest from Ladwa, interpreting this as a sign of BJP’s declining influence in the state.

… pic.twitter.com/ymTgh6Tr7h
"The people of Haryana are unhappy with the BJP’s ten years of rule. There is now a wave of support for Congress, and the people will elect a Congress government in the upcoming elections," she concluded.
