New Delhi: In response to claims of an alleged infiltration of 900 Kuki militants from Myanmar, two Kuki organizations in Manipur have called for a total shutdown on September 28. The government’s intelligence report, which was cited by the state’s security advisor, Kuldiep Singh, suggested that these militants were planning coordinated attacks on the Meitei community.

The two Kuki apex bodies, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), have strongly denied these claims, issuing public statements on Tuesday that called the intelligence report "baseless" and "fabricated." Both organizations are based in Churachandpur, Manipur, and represent the interests of the Kuki-Zo tribal communities.

Kuki leaders respond to infiltration allegations

Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) refuted the allegations from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) about the infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants. KIM stated that these claims were manufactured by the government to justify an attack on Kuki-Zo people. The organization emphasized that the information lacked credibility and was a deliberate attempt to escalate tensions between communities.

In light of these accusations, KIM has called for all Kuki-Zo people to stay home on September 27 and 28, urging them to avoid travel and work. A full shutdown will be enforced on September 28 across all Kuki-inhabited areas, with monitoring by Kuki Inpi and KSO in their respective regions.

ITLF calls for heightened vigilance

In a separate statement, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) echoed KIM’s concerns and announced the closure of borders and restrictions on movement from September 26 to 29. ITLF has directed all schools, institutions, and offices in Kuki areas to remain closed during this period. Medical teams and ambulances have been asked to stay on alert to provide emergency services.

The ITLF also requested heightened vigilance from district security personnel, including both state and central forces, to prevent any attacks on Kuki-Zo villages. The organization urged village volunteers to reinforce buffer zones and be prepared to defend their communities.
