Karnataka News: In a significant legal development, Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys, along with former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director Balaram and 16 others, has been booked under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act. This announcement was made by the police in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Monday, January 27.
The case was initiated at the Sadashiva Nagar police station following directives from the 71st city civil and session court. According to reports from news agency PTI, the complaint was lodged by a man who claims to have been falsely implicated in a honey trap case, which led to his dismissal from the IISc, where Gopalakrishnan is a member of the Board of Trustees.
Durgappa, the complainant, is a member of the tribal Bovi community and was formerly a faculty member at the Centre for Sustainable Technology at IISc. He alleges that he faced wrongful accusations in 2014 that resulted in his job loss.
Durgappa further contends that he endured casteist abuse and threats throughout this ordeal. The list of individuals accused alongside Gopalakrishnan includes notable figures such as Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, among others.
As of now, there has been no immediate response from either the IISc faculty or Kris Gopalakrishnan regarding these serious allegations.
Kris Gopalakrishnan is a prominent figure in India's technology sector. He served as vice chairman of Infosys from 2011 to 2014 and was CEO and managing director from 2007 to 2011. His contributions to industry have been recognized with various accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, awarded in January 2011.
Gopalakrishnan holds master's degrees in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has also been involved with prestigious organizations such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as president for 2013-14.
