In a shocking display of violence, unknown assailants stormed Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College at midnight on Thursday, wreaking havoc inside the hospital. The attackers targeted areas where the body of a female doctor was discovered last week. The BJP has raised serious concerns about Kolkata Police's handling of the situation, accusing TMC-affiliated goons of disguising themselves as protesters to tamper with crucial evidence.

The unrest began during a nationwide protest titled "Reclaim the Night," which started at 11:55 PM on Thursday. The movement was organized in response to the rape and murder of the female doctor at the same medical college. The protest, aimed at reclaiming women's right to safety at night, quickly turned violent in Kolkata.

As the clock struck midnight, the situation escalated when a mob forcefully entered the hospital's emergency ward, breaking through barricades. The hospital was heavily vandalized, with doctors being assaulted and the protest site within the hospital grounds severely damaged. Chairs, fans, and other property were smashed by the rioters.

According to the sources, the destruction inside the emergency ward was extensive. Windows, beds, and medical equipment were reduced to ruins. Even the police barracks within the hospital were not spared. The mob, which had initially gathered outside the hospital demanding justice, soon swelled into thousands.

In a coordinated attack, the mob targeted the building where the female doctor was raped and murdered, obliterating potential evidence. The police responded with lathi charges and tear gas, but not before several officers were injured.
Kolkata Police reported that a group of about 40 people orchestrated the violence. The chaos resulted in damage to police vehicles and motorcycles. Law enforcement had to resort to force to regain control.

Similar displays of solidarity and protest unfolded in Sreerampore, Chunchura, Santiniketan, Krishnanagar, Bardhaman, Siliguri, Barasat, Barrackpore, Rajarhat-Newtown, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri.

Meanwhile, a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reached Kolkata on Wednesday to investigate the matter.
