New Delhi: As the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) intensifies its probe into the heinous rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee in Kolkata, a dramatic development unfolded today when Arup Dutta, a close associate of the accused Sanjoy Roy and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), was seen sprinting towards the CBI Special Crime Branch office, visibly out of breath and desperate to reach the investigators. Meanwhile, a revealing video has emerged, capturing Dutta's frantic dash and his evident attempts to evade queries, further fueling the intrigue surrounding this high-profile case

Who is Arup Dutta?

Arup Dutta, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with the Kolkata Police and a member of the Police Welfare Committee, has been summoned by the CBI for questioning in connection with the Kolkata rape-and-murder case. Dutta's involvement has come under scrutiny due to his reported communication with the accused, Sanjoy Roy, who made multiple calls to him on the night of the incident.

Additionally, it has been revealed that Roy, who resided in the same barracks as Dutta, returned to the barracks after committing the crime, raising further questions about Dutta's potential knowledge or involvement in the events surrounding the case.

SC forms task force to protect medical professionals

In a significant development, the Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the Kolkata doctor's horrific rape and murder case and has announced the formation of a 10-member task force to develop a national protocol ensuring the safety and well-being of medical professionals. During the hearing, the Supreme Court appealed to the protesting doctors, who have been on strike demanding improved security measures, to have confidence in the apex court's efforts and resume their duties, thereby prioritizing the welfare of patients and the medical community.

SC seeks answers on FIR delay, principal's reappointment

The Supreme Court has scrutinized the West Bengal government and RG Kar Hospital authorities for their handling of the case, specifically questioning the undue delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR) and the swift reappointment of the principal to another hospital.

The Court has demanded a comprehensive status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the progress of the investigation and has also sought a detailed report from the West Bengal government regarding the unrest at RG Kar Hospital. The matter will be heard again on August 22, pending the submission of these reports.
