New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed on Tuesday that Dr. Sangeeta Ghosh, wife of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh, owns two immovable properties without the required approval from the West Bengal government. This discovery came as part of an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities involving Ghosh.
The ED conducted raids on seven premises, including Ghosh's residence, and those of his close relatives and associates, on September 6. These raids are connected to an ongoing probe initiated after a First Information Report (FIR) by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Sandip Ghosh, who was arrested by the CBI on September 2 in connection with the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, is currently in judicial custody until September 23.
During the search operations, documents detailing several properties owned by Sandip Ghosh and his wife were seized, including a flat in Murshidabad and three flats in Kolkata, along with two homes and a farmhouse. The ED suspects these properties were purchased using illicit funds.
The ED stated, “Various other incriminating documents and digital devices belonging to Dr. Sandip Ghosh were seized during the searches. These documents related to properties were seized based on prima facie suspicion that those properties were purchased out of Proceeds of Crime.” This investigation continues as the ED gathers more evidence on the alleged financial misdeeds committed by Sandip Ghosh and his associates.
