Kolkata rape accused visited Sonagachi, consumed liquor before committing crime: Reports

New Delhi: The ongoing investigation into the heinous rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, whose lifeless body was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, has unearthed disturbing facts about Sanjay Roy, the main suspect in the case, who was taken into custody a day after the gruesome discovery was made. As the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crime, the revelations about Roy's involvement have left authorities and the public stunned, shedding light on the shocking nature of the incident.

According to sources, Sanjay Roy, accompanied by another civic volunteer, ventured into the Sonagachi which is a red-light area  in North Kolkata, after midnight on August 8. Sources revealed that Roy had been drinking alcohol and exhibited inappropriate behavior, including harassing a woman who was walking by in an inebriated state. 

Furthermore, sources disclosed that Roy made a lewd request to another woman, asking her to share explicit nude photographs, demonstrating a pattern of disturbing and disrespectful conduct.

After Sanjay Roy's partner left on a rented bike, Sanjay was seen hanging around the RG Kar hospital's Trauma unit at 3:50 am. He was drunk and stumbled into the operation theatre, bursting through the door.

At 4:03 am, Sanjay Roy arrived at the hospital's emergency wing and proceeded directly to the third-floor seminar hall. During police questioning, Sanjay admitted that he saw the trainee doctor sleeping soundly. As sources revealed, he told the police, "I jumped on her and raped her," confessing to the horrific crime.

CBI to conduct lie detector test on Sanjay Roy

According to sources, on the night of the crime, Sanjay Roy visited a spot behind the hospital around 11 pm to consume alcohol, where he would often watch pornographic content while drinking. Police sources revealed that Roy entered the hospital premises multiple times that night.

In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) obtained permission from a Kolkata court on Monday to conduct a polygraph test (lie detector test) on Sanjay Roy.
