According to sources, the Assistant Superintendent was the initial point of contact for the victims family and allegedly informed them that their loved one had died by suicide within the hospital grounds, a claim that is now under scrutiny.More doctors to be questionedThe Kolkata Police has summoned the hospital officials for questioning, following an intense interrogation of seven junior doctors who were on duty the night of the incident. These junior doctors, comprising interns, house staff, and postgraduate trainees, had reportedly shared a meal with the 31-year-old trainee doctor just hours before her tragic rape and murder.Further investigations are underway, with sources indicating that additional doctors from RG Kar Hospital will likely be summoned for questioning in the coming days, as the police strive to unravel the circumstances surrounding the heinous crime.Tragic death at RG Kar Medical collegeOn August 9, the lifeless body of a postgraduate trainee was discovered in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, sending shockwaves through the community.A swift investigation led to the arrest of Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, on August 10, in connection with the heinous crime.As public outrage grew over the incident, Principal Sandip Ghosh of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital tendered his resignation, not only from his position but also from government service, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the institutions failure to ensure the safety of its students.Government responds to outrageIn a quick response to the crisis, the West Bengal government removed Medical Superintendent-cum-Vice-Principal Sanjay Vashisth, replacing him with Bulbul Mukhopadhyay, the dean of student affairs, who will assume additional responsibilities as superintendent.A detailed four-page autopsy report revealed the gruesome extent of the victims injuries, including bleeding from her private parts, eyes, and mouth, as well as wounds on her face, belly, leg, neck, hand, and lips. The report confirmed homicidal injuries, antemortem fractures, and sexual penetration, indicating a violent and fatal attack.Investigation is underwayThe autopsy report estimated that the victim was killed by throttling and smothering between 3 am and 5 am on Friday, shedding light on the tragic events.Sanjay Roy, the accused, has been charged under Sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and was produced in Sealdah court, which remanded him to police custody until August 23 for further investigation.
