Protests at MG Kar Medical College and Ex-Principal (ANI)
In connection with the case and protest going on across the nation amid call for justice to the rape and murder of junior doctor, the Central Government has issued a strict order mandating the heads of healthcare institutions to file a First Information Report (FIR) within six hours in case of any violence against healthcare workers. This directive is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of medical professionals amidst growing concerns over their security.
In a significant development, Professor Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has approached the Calcutta High Court, seeking protection due to an alleged life threat. The court, taking his plea seriously, has directed the State to provide him with immediate police protection.
The High Court has also instructed Dr Ghosh's legal counsel to submit a separate affidavit if there are any additional concerns or claims that need to be addressed. This move ensures that all aspects of Dr Ghosh's safety concerns are thoroughly examined and documented.
