In a significant development in the tragic rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Calcutta High Court has directed Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, to take an extended leave. This decision comes in the wake of the brutal crime that occurred on the hospital campus.

New Appointment Amidst Controversy

Dr Ghosh, who resigned from his position as principal, was swiftly appointed as the principal of Calcutta National Medical College (CNMC) shortly after his resignation. The court has demanded the submission of the case diary by 1 PM regarding the RG Kar rape and murder case. 

Court Questioned The Rapid Appointment

According to Live Law India, the court expressed concern over the rapid appointment, questioning whether the swift transition undermined the seriousness of the situation. The court emphasized that if the principal cannot show empathy and moral responsibility, it raises doubts about who will?

Autopsy Report Unveils Gruesome Details

The post-mortem examination of the victim, a trainee doctor, has revealed harrowing details about the assault. The report indicates that the victim suffered severe genital torture, a deep gash in her private parts, and multiple injuries. According to the sources, the report outlines that the victim was throttled and then smothered to death. Her thyroid cartilage was broken due to strangulation. The attack occurred between 3 AM and 5 AM on August 9.

Further details from the autopsy reveal injuries to the victim's abdomen, lips, fingers, and left leg. Additionally, her mouth was covered, and her head was forcibly pressed against a wall or the floor to prevent her from screaming or calling for help.

Meanwhile, Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has called for nationwide shutdown of OPD services from today onwards till August 13, over the incident that has initiated an outrage among people.
