Students protesting in Kolkata junior doctor rape case (ANI)
In a chilling revelation, Kolkata police have disclosed that the man accused of raping and murdering a doctor at a government hospital had a troubling history of violent behavior and a penchant for watching disturbing pornographic content. The accused, Sanjoy Roy, 33, a civic volunteer since 2019, had been married four times, with each marriage marred by allegations of abuse and violence.
Investigators have discovered several clips of violent and unnatural pornography on Roy's mobile phone, raising serious concerns about his mental state. "The content found on his phone is extremely disturbing," a police officer stated. "Watching such material is far from normal and reflects a deeply troubled mind."
According to the sources, Roy’s neighbors and police sources revealed a pattern of abusive behavior throughout his marriages. His first wife hailed from Behala, followed by marriages to women from Park Circus, Barrackpore, and Alipore. None of these relationships lasted, with each ending in allegations of domestic violence. Neighbors frequently reported loud altercations from Roy’s residence, and his fourth wife, who worked at a petrol pump in Alipore, had even filed a formal complaint of domestic violence before their legal separation.
Despite the mounting evidence, Roy’s mother, Malati Roy, claims that her sons is innocent. "I believe he is being framed," she said, recalling his upbringing and education in Bhabanipur. Malati also mentioned that Roy was a trained boxer and had been stationed at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the tragic incident occurred.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed profound shock over the brutal murder of the second-year PG student and has demanded an impartial and thorough investigation. The IMA has urged Union Minister JP Nadda to initiate a detailed inquiry into the circumstances that allowed such a heinous crime and to implement stronger safety measures for doctors, especially women, in the workplace.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Monday warned Kolkata Police to solve the case by Sunday else she will hand over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
