A preliminary autopsy report of the post-graduate trainee doctor found dead at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has confirmed that she was sexually assaulted before her murder. This revelation has intensified the ongoing protests by junior doctors at the state-run facility and drawn sharp criticism from the BJP concerning law and order.

The autopsy also reveals that the victim was bleeding from the private parts and had injury marks all over the body.

According to the reports, authorities have arrested an individual with access to multiple hospital departments. This arrest followed a thorough review of CCTV footage. "We have detained one person who is an outsider. His actions are highly suspicious, and he appears to be directly involved in the crime," a police official informed PTI.

Shehzad Poonawalla's demands CBI probe

The semi-nude body of the female post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of the government hospital on Friday. Her father has accused the hospital of attempting to conceal the facts surrounding his daughter's rape and murder.
Meanwhile, BJP Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the state administration, stating, "The condition of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital under Mamata Banerjee, who serves as both Health Minister and Home Minister, is deplorable. If women are not safe under her administration, one can only imagine the situation in Sandeshkhali." He has also demanded the CBI investigation in the case.

Government Response and Protest

In response to the incident, the state government has constituted an 11-member inquiry committee. However, concerns have been raised about the committee’s credibility, as some members are interns and allegedly linked to the TMC. This has led to accusations of an attempt to obscure the truth.

Resident doctors at RG Kar Medical College have staged protests against the rape and murder of their colleague. Their demands reflect a profound mistrust in the state government's investigation. Many are calling for the case to be handed over to the CBI and for the family to receive justice without further delays or the need for High Court intervention. Nurses are holding rally and demanding justice to the victim.
