A 35-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday, during a wedding reception at Jalalabad in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district. According to reports, he was a relative of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim.

The deceased, identified as Nihal Khan, was shot in the neck during the wedding festivities. Reports also claimed that Khan was the brother-in-law of Iqbal Kaskar, who is the brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Kaskar is currently locked up in Taloja Central Jail.

What is the reason behind killing?

Investigations revealed a complex family history behind the shooting. Nihal Khan was also the brother-in-law of Jalalabad town chairman Shakeel Khan. In 2016, he had eloped with Shakeel Khan's niece, creating a rift between the families. Although the matter was settled thereafter. 

Shakeel Khan said,"Nihal missed his flight and arrived by road. It seems my brother Kamil was still upset about the 2016 incident and sought revenge."

"He knew Nihal was attending the reception and was carrying his licensed rifle. After the wedding, he found an opportunity and shot Nihal dead," he added. 

Police confirm rift

Police investigating the case confirmed a heated argument transpired between Khan and Kamil Khan, leading to the shooting in front of wedding guests. The accused, Kamil, fled the scene immediately.

"An FIR under IPC Section 302 (murder) has been registered against Kamil Khan based on the complaint of Nihal's wife," said SSP Shahjahanpur Ashok Kumar Meena. "The body has been sent for autopsy, and the case is being investigated thoroughly. We will apprehend the accused soon."
