In Bihar's Araria district, a man named Manjeet Kumar Ram died by suicide at his girlfriend's home after a high-drama standoff. Armed with a pistol, he threatened the woman’s family and demanded to see her.

In a shocking incident in Bihar's Araria district, a man died by suicide at his girlfriend's home. The deceased, identified as Manjeet Kumar Ram, a resident of Ward 8, Bairakh in Raniganj police station area, had been in a relationship with a woman from Khutha Baijnathpur under the Bhargama police station area.

Late Thursday night, Manjeet arrived at his girlfriend's house armed with a pistol. He reportedly threatened her family, pointing the weapon at them, and demanded they bring the woman before him. According to the family, he warned them, saying he would kill everyone if his demands weren’t met. Subsequently, he locked himself in a room and shot himself in the head.

The injured Manjeet was rushed to a private hospital in Purnia, where doctors declared him dead.

High-drama night at scene

The situation escalated as police officials, including Raniganj Circle Inspector Rajeev Ranjan and Bhargama Station House Officer (SHO) Rakesh Kumar, arrived at the scene with a team of armed personnel. They tried negotiating with Manjeet for hours, even offering written assurances that he wouldn’t face arrest and proposing marriage with the woman. Despite their efforts, the standoff ended tragically around 1 a.m. when he pulled the trigger.

Police investigation

The police broke down the room’s door with the help of locals and recovered Manjeet’s body and pistol. Reports suggest the bullet entered his neck and exited through his head. SHO Rakesh Kumar confirmed the body has been sent to Araria Sadar Hospital for post-mortem, and investigations are underway.
