West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said ‘Khela Hoga’ (the game is on) ahead of attending the third meeting of the newly formed INDIA bloc of opposition parties in Mumbai on Wednesday.

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Mamata Banerjee tied a rakhi to former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at his residence. Speaking to reporters after the event, Mamata said, “Hoga hoga, khela hoga,” implying that the game of politics is set to intensify ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

When questioned about the number of seats the Trinamool Congress (TMC) aims to secure in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Banerjee responded, “Many.”

Ahead of INDIA meet, Mamata Banerjee meets with Amitabh Bachchan

Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee visited the residence of Bollywood icons Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan at their residence in Mumbai. After meeting Amitabh Bachchan and tying him a rakhi, she expressed her admiration for the family, referring to Amitabh Bachchan as ‘Bharat Ratan’.

“I am happy today. I met ‘Bharat Ratan’ of India Amitabh Bachchan and also tied him rakhi. I love this family. They are the number one family in India and they have a lot of contributions also… I also invited him to attend Durga Puja and International Film Festival,” she said.

The third meeting of the INDIA alliance, which encompasses 26 opposition parties including the Congress, is expected to discuss crucial strategies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Seat-sharing arrangements and alliance tactics will also be on the agenda. Additionally, there is speculation about the launch of a new logo for the INDIA coalition.

The new alliance aims to unite diverse opposition forces to challenge the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The joint opposition is determined to thwart the NDA’s bid for a third consecutive term at the helm during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The first meeting of the coalition took place in Patna on June 23, followed by the second meeting in Bengaluru on July 17-18. The ongoing third meeting is scheduled in Mumbai from August 31 to September 1.
