In a remarkable display of bravery and dedication, Kerala forest officials successfully conducted a daring rescue mission atop a Wayanad hill to save six tribals, including four children, who were trapped in a cave.

Commending the actions of the rescue team, the chief minister of the state Panirayi Vijayan, taking it to his X handle, said, "Six precious lives were saved from a remote tribal settlement after a tireless 8-hour operation by our courageous forest officials in landslide-hit Wayanad. Their heroism reminds us that Kerala's resilience shines brightest in the darkest times. United in hope, we will rebuild."

When did the operation begin?

The rescue operation began when forest officials received a distress call about a group of tribals stranded in a remote cave on Wayanad hill. The group, which included two adults and four children, had sought refuge in the cave after losing their way in the dense forest. As the hours passed, the situation grew increasingly perilous due to limited food and water supplies.

A Heroic Ascent

Understanding the urgency, a team of experienced forest officials, equipped with climbing gear and medical supplies, embarked on the challenging ascent. The journey was fraught with difficulties, as they navigated treacherous terrain and dense undergrowth to reach the stranded tribals.

"Climbing the hill was a daunting task, but the thought of those children kept us going," said one of the rescuers, emphasizing the team’s determination to save the trapped individuals.

The Successful Rescue

Upon reaching the cave, the officials immediately provided the tribals with food and water, ensuring their immediate needs were met. The rescue team then carefully guided the group down the hill, ensuring their safety at every step.

Despite the harsh conditions, the entire operation was completed successfully, with all six tribals safely escorted to a nearby medical facility for further care and evaluation.

The local community and officials have lauded the forest department for their swift and courageous actions. “Their commitment and bravery are truly commendable,” said a community leader. This incident highlights the dedication of Kerala's forest officials in protecting and serving the tribal communities within their jurisdiction.
