Kerala: Couple commit suicide after daughter elopes with boyfriend in Kollam

A distressing incident unfolded in Kerala's Kollam district as a 55-year-old man named Unnikrishna Pillai, hailing from Pavumba, tragically passed away at a hospital on Sunday after attempting suicide with his wife Bindu, 47, just days prior.

The ordeal began on Friday when the couple was discovered in a critical condition after allegedly overdosing on medicines. Bindu succumbed to the poisoning shortly after the incident, while Unnikrishna Pillai fought for his life until Sunday.

According to authorities, the couple's only daughter had recently eloped with her boyfriend. Upon investigation, police recovered a suicide note from the couple's residence, prompting further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Residents of the neighborhood became alarmed when they noticed the absence of the couple outside their home on Friday. Upon entering the premises, they found Unnikrishna Pillai and Bindu in dire straits.

Bindu was pronounced dead upon arrival at Karunagappally Taluk Hospital, while Unnikrishna Pillai was transferred to Valiyath Hospital in Karunagappally before being moved to NS Hospital in Kollam, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries around 2 PM on Sunday.
