A Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus caught fire on Friday morning while traveling between Kayamkulam and Alappuzha. However, the immediate action from the driver prevented any injuries from happening to the 44 passengers on board.

The driver alerted everyone after he smelled something burning and asked everyone to get off the bus and the passengers managed to leave unharmed, according to the sources. The fire nearly completely destroyed the vehicle.

"The fire has been extinguished by the fire force. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained," an officer of Kayamkulam police station said.

The bus driver explained to the media that he parked the car on the side of the road after he heard a change in the engine's sound. The driver then reported that he noticed dense smoke come out from the back of the bus from the side view mirror. The driver added that since the diesel tank was in the back of the bus, a leak from it could not have been the source of the fire. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the transport minister has asked the concerned department to investigate the matter.
