In a shocking turn of events, a cabin crew member of Air India Express found herself behind bars after authorities discovered nearly 1 kg of gold concealed in her body. Surabhi Khatun, hailing from Kolkata, was intercepted by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) upon her arrival at Kannur airport. Acting on specific information about gold smuggling via Air India Express flight IX 714 from Muscat, DRI officials took action.

During a thorough search, authorities uncovered 960g of gold hidden inside Surabhi's rectum. The shocking revelation led to her immediate arrest and subsequent presentation before a judicial magistrate. Now, the 26-year-old finds herself in judicial custody, facing serious charges.

A network of smugglers

The investigation suggests that Surabhi might not be acting alone. Authorities are diligently working to identify her accomplices and dismantle the gold smuggling network. With possible links to previous smuggling incidents, Surabhi's case has brought the spotlight on a broader operation.

Expanding probe of smuggling

DRI's investigation doesn't stop with Surabhi's arrest. Suspicions linger over the involvement of other cabin crew members in similar activities. The interrogation of additional personnel has yielded valuable insights, hinting at a deeper-rooted issue within the airline industry.

Past incidents

This isn't the first instance of a cabin crew member being implicated in such nefarious activities. Last year, Shafi from Wayanad was arrested for smuggling gold.
