New Delhi: In a continued effort to dismantle the terror infrastructure in Kashmir, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached the property of Nasir Rashid Bhat, an overground worker (OGW) of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in connection with the targeted killing of the Adoora-Kulgam Sarpanch. The action was taken on Friday under Section 33 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1947, following orders from the NIA Special Judge in Jammu.

NIA attaches property of Nasir Rashid Bhat

Nasir Rashid Bhat’s residential house, located in the village of Tengpora in Shopian, Jammu & Kashmir, was attached by the NIA. Bhat, along with other members of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, was involved in the assassination of the Sarpanch on March 11, 2022. This attack was part of a broader HM conspiracy aimed at disrupting India’s integrity, sovereignty, and security through violent acts and targeted killings.

Investigation findings

The NIA’s investigation, which took over from the Kulgam police, revealed that Bhat had provided his Alto car to the terrorists and had conducted a reconnaissance of the Sarpanch’s house. On the day of the attack, he informed the HM terrorists about the Sarpanch's presence and used his car to transport the assailants to the vicinity of the target’s residence.

NIA files charges against six individuals

The NIA has filed charges against six individuals involved in this case, and the trial is currently ongoing. This attachment of property marks a significant step in the NIA’s efforts to curb the activities of terror outfits and their supporters in the region.
