The Karnataka Police recently took a unique approach to handling unruly tourists at Bharachukki Waterfalls in Chamarajanagar. The visuals that have surfaced on social media show visitors causing disruptions while taking selfies were made to perform sit-ups as a form of punishment.

This unconventional method aimed to address the nuisance caused by tourists ignoring safety guidelines and disrupting the peaceful environment.

Meanwhile, according to the authorities, the waterfall in the area has received good amount of rain spells which has helped revive the waterfall and streams which dried up last year. However, reports also claim that resorts and homestays have witnessed a drop in the number of tourists due to landslides on the Shiradi Ghat stretch, which generally attract a large number of tourists.

Similar incident

This is not the first time; a similar case came to light last year when visitors at Dudhsagar Falls at Castle Rock in Uttara Kannada district were made to do sit-ups as punishment after people were found trekking in the banned areas of the waterfalls without permission from the Goa government.

By enforcing physical activity as a consequence, the police sought to emphasize the importance of respecting local rules and preserving natural sites. The authorities have taken preventive measures and have cautioned people not to go near the waterfall and nearby areas. Sometimes, this type of creative measure not only addressed the immediate issue but also served as a memorable lesson on responsible tourism.
